Our position

Serious training without ego. Strength with restraint. A collective, not a crowd.

ἀρετή
Arete · (ah-REH-tay)

An ancient Greek word meaning excellence — not just in skill, but in character, effort, and the pursuit of one's highest potential. It is the idea our academy is built on, and the standard we train toward on the mats and off them.

The Collective

Five pillars of practice

I

Excellence

Constant improvement through deliberate practice and attention to detail.

II

Discipline

Showing up, embracing challenges, and committing to the process.

III

Community

An environment where students support each other's growth.

IV

Humility

Remaining open to learning regardless of experience or rank.

V

Adaptability

Solving problems both on and off the mats.

Coaching Philosophy

We teach you to understand concepts, not memorize techniques. The goal is not knowing more moves. It is becoming a better problem solver — under pressure, with a thinking partner across from you.

The pursuit of excellence through practice.

Founder & Head Instructor

Ian Joubert

A U.S. Army veteran with over 16 years of grappling and combat sports experience — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, Judo, and MMA. During his service, Ian assisted with the Modern Army Combatives Program, training soldiers in practical grappling.

Before coaching full-time, he spent 10 years as a Quality Engineer at BAE Systems. That systems-based, analytical thinking shapes AJC's philosophy: developing adaptable martial artists through intentional practice and a focus on understanding — not just memorizing.
