Arete Jiu Jitsu Collective is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy focused on technical excellence, personal growth, and building a community where anyone can learn, improve, and challenge themselves.
Constant improvement through deliberate practice and attention to detail.
Showing up, embracing challenges, and committing to the process.
An environment where students support each other's growth.
Remaining open to learning regardless of experience or rank.
Solving problems both on and off the mats.
We use a constraints-led approach — understanding concepts over memorizing techniques. The goal is not knowing more moves. It is becoming a better problem solver.
For beginners and experienced practitioners alike — self-defense, competition, and fitness. Train with intention in a structured, welcoming environment.
A U.S. Army veteran with over 16 years of grappling and combat sports experience — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, Judo, and MMA. During his service, Ian assisted with the Modern Army Combatives Program, training soldiers in practical grappling.
Before coaching full-time, he spent 10 years as a Quality Engineer at BAE Systems. That systems-based, analytical thinking shapes AJC's philosophy: developing adaptable martial artists through intentional practice and a focus on understanding — not just memorizing.
