Concept explorations for Arete Jiu Jitsu Collective — Goffstown, NH
The two directions to review
The showcase build. Ian's exact flow, turned up to eleven: cinematic Ken-Burns hero, animated gold buttons, scroll-reveal everything, count-up stats, a flowing concept map, marquee, parallax academy band, glowing pricing, and a magnetic final CTA.
Built from Mockup 7 (Colonnade) per Ian's handwritten flow: centered brandmark over the mat, a black 'our position' line, the Arete definition in an olive block, refined pillars + the pursuit-of-excellence colonnade, a top-of-stair academy band, session packs, and an enlarged lockup.
Earlier concept explorations
Single-column scroll. Obsidian base, olive sections, gold reserved for the one CTA that matters. The reference build.
Dark, structured, premium. Fixed sidebar nav with a bento-grid body — values, programs and pricing as tiles. Feels engineered.
Light bone-white editorial. Asymmetric type, laurel line-work, generous whitespace. Reads like a manifesto, not a flyer.
A field journal for deliberate practice—documentary imagery, ruled notes, and a curriculum mapped like a training system.
A bold academy poster system—panoramic training imagery, oversized type, and information arranged with uncompromising clarity.
A warm community-first composition—interlocking mat geometry, candid photo windows, and an inviting path into the academy.
Classical temple architecture—symmetrical columns, pediment hero, and monumental calm. A house of practice, not a gym.
Cinematic after-hours academy—deep black, sparse type, film-strip image frames. Atmosphere first, information second.
Technical paper and process diagrams—CLA as a system, values as nodes, membership as a specification. Engineered clarity.
The recommended build. Best of all nine: cinematic photo hero with a stat strip, the ἀρετή creed band, a constraints-led concept map, Greek colonnade accents, and gold-earned CTAs.
